I took a look at using your code, but I have the opposite problem. Your spindle stops abruptly with max braking with the enable pin deactivated, but mine just disconnects the power section and lets it coast down.

I don't actually need the rapid overlay. If I could operate rapid and normal feed with the same encoder, that would also be OK.

Released debs (ie officially released 2.9 versions) are also now available from Github.

It is not yet clear whether the buildbots will continue in the future, but at the moment they are how the docs get to the website.

The encoder works on the spindle and for normal feed rates. However, if I switch the input in the Mesa software to rapid feed rate overlay, the bar does not move with the same encoder as for normal feed rates and the same wiring.

Das ist nicht das Problem. Das Problem ist, dass es gar nicht angeschlossen und ausprobiert hast.
In Mach3 werden physische Pins des Parallelports angegeben. Wenn die Belegung nicht stimmt, ist es entweeder der falsche Motor (falsche Achse bewegt sich), er läuft in die falsche Richtung oder er macht bei Richtungswechsel nur einen Schritt (Takt und Richtung vertauscht).
Nachdem du den Strom über die DIP-Schalter eingestellt hast, schließt du die Motoren und die Spannungsversorgung über die Schraubklemmen an die Karte an (und trennst die auch nicht unter Spannung) und verbindest die Karte mit dem Parallelport. Dann testest du ob es läuft. Die Wahrsagerei ob die Pinbelegung richtig oder falsch ist oder Beschwerden über richtige und nicht richtige / unpassende Datenblätter aus dem Internet bringen hier keinem was.

Auch kann hier im Forum niemand wissen was "die alte Karte" ist, daher macht diese Referenz keinen Sinn. Was soll dieses "sowas", auf das du dich beziehst, sein und wie soll jemand wissen was es ist, ohne dass du es vorher geschrieben hast? Die ist aber sowieso nicht relevant, da deine Endstufe einfach an den Parallelport angeschlossen wird.

You must degrease maxvel or you must degrease step timmings.

The second problem concerns the SRO rotary encoder. The spindle and the normal feed work, but the rapid-feed encoder does not. Even when I swap the inputs for feed and spindle, it still doesn’t work. It seems to be an issue with the GUI/interface? Where can I start looking to solve this?

We need more information. Specification encoder? Wiring encoder? What SRO mean?

The "Maxvel is to high" error means that the stepgen cannot physically generate
the  requested step rate with the current steplength and stepspace parameters.

Options are to:

Lower the steps per turn on the spindle drive

Lower the spindle maximum RPM

Lower the values of the step length and step space parameters
(as long as they still meet the drives minimum width specifications)

The maximum RPM will be 60/(steps per turn(step_length+step_space))

So for example at 10000 steps per turn and 5000 ns (.000005 seconds) for step length
and step space, the maximum RPM would be 600...

Richtig gemacht läuft LinuxCNC extrem stabil. Aber du kannst nicht erwarten, dass jede ISO auf jeder Hardware auf Anhieb stabil läuft.
Die Distro ist bei Mesa nicht entscheidend hier gilt es die Netzwerklatenz zu minimieren das wurde hier aber schon x-mal beschrieben.

Ich habe den Eindruck, dass die Stabilität stark von den verwendeten Images abhängt und einen Einsteiger stark frustriert.
Das RASPI PI5 läuft absolut unzuverlässig  und stürzt unvermittelt ab mit einer zweiten Netzwerkkarte, aber das WLAN hab ich als Anfänger nicht hinbekommen mit den Anleitungen.
Dann hab ich das offizielle Image 2.9.2 mit einem Micro-PC verwendet und auf 2.9.7 upgedatet, welches aber auch wieder irgendwelche Fehlermeldungen produziert und die Ethernetverbindung zur Mesa abbricht (Realtek Treiber und RASPI Image Meldung).

Aus Frust hab ich ein Linux Mint Bookworm mit Debian aufgespielt und den RT Kernel sowie die Linux CNC Software händisch aufgespielt. 
Das Ganze dann ohne Fehlermeldungen und die Verbindung zur Mesa ist stabil. 
Das Mint Ding ist eine heavy Distribution....wirkt sich das mit der Ethernet Mesa negativ aus oder packt das ein I5 PC mit 8 GB Ram?
Oder muss ich mir einen schlankeren Unterbau suchen?
Leider konnte ich noch nicht weiter damit arbeiten, weil es noch ein paar andere Baustellen gibt.

 

Cyclic synchronous velocity mode only ? are you running external scale encoder or motor encoder on your setup. i am really confused... I thought ASD-A2-E could be running PT modes ? Motor encoder + Glass scale encoder ???

  I have a problem with the stepgen: the max velocity is too high. Where and which value do I need to adjust? My steps with the Mesa 7i96 are 10,000 steps for the spindle.
