Why does it seem like everyone here is Australian?

Category: Off Topic and Test Posts

The plants can be pretty rough as well.
The beer's good, no I no longer indulge.
The back roads are great for a fang & scratch.
Funny thing is Australia is hot & dry but Aussies have a rep for being pretty quick on a wet circuit, go figure.
Another good thing is the drive in bottle shops, ya can get beer, wine, spirits and chips and other party supplies without having to get out of your car. Unlike some nanny state countries where you can't even buy beer & spirits in the same place. The same country that was so scared of Trump they voted in the same party that made them a laughing stock that was led by Castro's son and used to club baby seals. The same country that you can't walk the street with a beer or other drink in your hand, and you pay for stuff with loonies. Oh and don't ask for a hamburger with the lot, they can't fathom it.

To be fair we only got electricity yesterday and fire the week before. Fresh water, that's for cowards that are scared to go to creek to grab some water cos there might be a salty wanting to eat you. Or a shark that wants to bite a leg off, a blue ring that wants to end your day.

W5100S-EVB-PICO stepgenerator and encoder driver

Category: Driver Boards

Dear linuxcnc users,
i want to introduce my new open source project based on the W5100S-EVB-PICO . ~10 USD (raspberry pico clone)

features:
1 to 8 step generator with 255KHz maximum output in this version, (possible higher freq) enough for 15m/min with 0.001mm
1 to 8 quadrature encoder counter with 12.5MHz theoretical maximum counting frequency.

current version in the github page is support 4 stepgen and 4 encoders
linuxcnc driver supports multiple instances
planned direct SPI communication with raspberry-pi4 (with normal pico)

Preview plot with touchscreen gestures

Category: Gmoccapy

Hello everyone,

i was facing the same problem preview plot bug in LinuxCNC 2.9.4 with Gmoccapy 3.4.9 as described in this thread:  Question: Gmoccapy 3.4.2 and touchscreen
Preview only moves a couple of mm then stops.

So i decided to change the gremlin.py to use the Gtk3 Gestures. With the modified version you can rotate the preview with one finger again, but also zoom in and out with pinch gestures as well as pan with two fingers. In X, Y, Z view the rotation is locked, only zoom + pan. As of right now it will disable the mouse, but my machine only has the touchscreen so for me its no problem.

~$xinput list show my touchscreen as:
eGalaxTouch Virtual Device for Single
eGalaxTouch Virtial Device for Touch

No further driver installed. Tested with fresh 2.9.4 live iso.

Just replace gremlin.py in /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/

I just wanted to drop this file in here in case someone has the same problem. It does not work in Axis though! There the preview jumps to a random place, but it is the same behaviour with the original gremlin.

Also made a small video:

linux cnc keeps bending shortcutting to the next line.

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Greetings,

I think I had a similar situation.

I needed to activate G64 to tell the controller not to move until the previous event had finished it's travel.

Cheers,

Dave

linux cnc keeps bending shortcutting to the next line.

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I have an issue that im sure some of you know the solution. It seems linuxCNC/ AXIS processor  instead of completing a move to a coordinate begins moving to the next coordinate creating a curve/ bend toolpath between the two points, almost like a shortcut. It does this only from an X or Y cordinate to a Z and vise versa, but not from an X to Y coordinate. Please help !! thanks.

Great news!

I also tried more modern versions of the MPLAB X IDE, are not able to properly read the original hex format.

Well actually those editors are reading it correctly. Data after the End-Of-File should not exist. A good Editor should just say sth. like "can't open file - wrong entry" or "do you want to ignore the error?"....
The Editor/Programmer PCW is reading does not read it correctly as it ignores the EOF Entry without saying so.
Wikipedia says:

:00000001FF   End Of File: Must occur exactly once per file in the last record of the file.

But well - the initial problem is solved and I don't think I will put effort in fixing Microchip's tools or Toolchains.
@PCW: Please keep the EOF bug in mind whenever you send hex files made by the same toolchain.
Thank you for the fixed firmware!

Mesa 7I96 + Stepper online CL86T Wiring connections

Category: Driver Boards

 Hello everyone,
I wanted to ask a favour of some more experienced users than myself.
I am making the electronics with the 7I96 and the CL86T drives, the connections for the motor management I managed to connect.
Now I am missing the limit switches e-stop and Z-Finder, could you kindly check on the attached diagram if the connections are correct?
Thanks
Milko

I am not in Australia.
I do like Australia, with all the creatures that can kill people easily, mostly because of people.

Why does it seem like everyone here is Australian?

Category: Off Topic and Test Posts

It seems all permanent, long-standing members, contributors, moderators, etc. are Australian.

Why is this?

Why would a place with a hot climate have lots of people who work with heat-producing machinery in a room that likely has no A/C?

Machines likely need cooling water (fresh, not salty), a rarish thing in Australia.

I suppose close proximity to Asia is nice, but is kinda counterracted by the fact that it's far away from the USA (though Trump is successfully making proximity to the US less desirable).
