Use QTdragon, premeasure your tools including your probe and its all included.. I use a height gauge offline.

this is what i went with and the cheapest is what drove this decision. Since i have never done a plasma machine before top-of-the-line stuff is is not something i want to do on a first-time build for plasma., these drives are rated for 42V so 36v is safe and should do what i need them to do. i plan on keeping the gantry very light, plasma should not need anything to rigid. my thought is 11-gauge square tube should do fine, i honestly don't think you need much more than 1 linear rail on the gantry maybe 2 on the Z but 1 there too would probably be enough.

i will be doing my planning in fusion 360 to work out a final game plan, i might try to design things so i can add a rotary later down the road if i want to get into than later. This straight torch is pretty long so a z with lots of travel is probably something i will factor into a design. Z height is something i would avoid in a milling application but with plasma it should not matter much.

Work with probe

Category: Basic Configuration

Hi everybody
Sorry, but I didn't read all the 73 pages of this topic. I start using Probe-Screen but have a little bit a problem with missing M6 command.

At the moment I have several tools with SK30 holder. Every tool has it own length in the tool table and I make manual toolchange. Now I want to add a 3d probe sensor.

I don't have a tool length sensor mounted on the bed. I only use it to measure the tools.
So I would like to keep it that way.

What would be the best way to solve this problem?

Ethercat + step/dir signals

The Deiwu I/O does not output PWM,
Rtelligent has one that does.
But as Hakan says an Ethercat stepper driver would be the best solution
eg Rtelligent ECR60 but Leadshine also do one now.

Real-time kerel not detected on patched 6.12

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Alright, I assumed you would have one since you have an rpi image builder. But likely it uses a prebuild from Debian that seems to be patched already.

Yes, I built the Pi images for Linuxcnc you find on the downloads page. I shared my repo for the builder on this thread earlier. Bear in mind the pi5 was released just after we released Linuxcnc 2.91 and at the time pi5 support was patchy in the upstream builder. I've since updated the builder and it has been tested on the Pi5 and the shortcomings are reported to be gone.

We actually build the kernel .deb from the official Raspberry pi kernel repo and wrap Debian around it and build a compressed image. The 6.12  kernel should be supported by the builder. You should give it a go. As its cross compiled, building the kernel will be quicker than  it can ever be on a Pi and the kernel as well as an optional img (which we compress) is built.

nah, go 48v if your drives can support it. its the current which matters. You could drive the motors at 72 volt with the right drivers if you wanted and still not break them,

the cheap drives i got are only rated for 42V so i am looking to run them on 36v, this is going to be on the cheap side for builds. i don't do things as pictured by others i just use it for a starting point for planning. i plan on using double shielded wires everywhere with shield drains on everything. i have spent a lot of time reading up on grounding and a lot of it was plasma related for a source. i have seen way too many builds get sideways because of grounding issues :)

the Nema 23 motors i picked up and dives were only $110 for 4 so nothing very fancy. THCAD is about the cheapest height control on the market, so being able to do that makes me happy :)

i'm not ready to buy boards from Mesa just yet and the THCAD-300 is out of stock at the moment, and it is a little bit cheaper than the THCAD-2 so with added cost of having to buy extra stuff with shipping on top of that saving $20-$30 makes me lean towards the THCAD-300 just because i am cheap :)

you put me on the right track.....
I was provided with the vendor ID (0x4321) and product ID / code (0x10C2) by the manufacturer.
And these values show in the drive through the software also

using the below terminal input
ethercat slaves -v

the product code was 0x00d0   ???

can anyone provide the reasons for this ? please remember the internal drive value is what the manufacturer stated !

i made this change to the .xml and the drive works.

Mesa 7i96s firmware for Index (2.9 release)

Category: Advanced Configuration

It connects to the hardware stepgen index pin
probably something like:

hm2_7i96s.0.stepgen.00.index-enable

halcmd show pin hm2 | grep index
 (when linuxcnc is running)

should list it

qtdragon modify

Category: Qtvcp

Hello,
im struggling with the modification of qtdragon. I just replaced 2 buttons. Im able to use the new design and works almost everything well. The 2 new butttons are not working. I tried with the costum_postgui.hal but i got always an errror that this pin is not valid. So i checked in qtdragon via hallshow which pins are avalibel and i didnt found my button (action_air). i searched everywhere but i dont find anything like that. (Not even action_flood and that is working well)I wanted to search for the iocontroll but that is a executable file and i cant open it. (well, im not that familiar with linux).

I hope someone can help or give me some suggestions.

While the current and arc voltage can be controlled accurately during cutting,
you have large transients at arc start and stop (which happens in a fraction
of a nanosecond) V=L di/dt  is not your friend here...
