Chinese Mesa 7I92 from aliexpress NEW

Category: Driver Boards

You are right.
the firmware that the seller gave me was 7i92_G540x2D_custom.bit
I did upload it but it gave an error when i started linuxcnc

I install Mesa Configuration Tools and download a firmware from there the 7i92_G540x2D without the custom part and it works.
For now i just tested the pin output
The next problem is when i start linuxcnc it gave me an error: Watchdog has bit!
from the post "Mesa 7i97 Watchdog has bit!"  i did latency-histogram --nobase --sbinsize 1000 and its like this:

btw the pc is minipc Fujitsu Esprimo Q920

probe_basic_postgui.hal conflicts with my gamepad*.hal

Category: QtPyVCP

Thanks for your help.
I forgott that twopass is not working for POSTGUI_HALFILE.
So I moved the declaration of the "not" function to the core.sim3.hal (which I had to change into the "names=" format) and change the function names accordingly.

in probe_basic_postgui.hal:
comment out:
#loadrt not
#addf not.0 servo-thread
and in core.sim3.hal insert:
loadrt not names=not1
addf not1 servo-thread

in probe_basic_postgui.hal:
comment out:
#net prog-running not.0.in <= halui.program.is-idle
#net cycle-timer time.0.start <= not.0.out
change in:
net prog-running not1.in <= halui.program.is-idle
net cycle-timer time.0.start <= not1.out

in probe_basic_postgui.hal:
# changed due to a conflict
# halui.program.is-paused is used is gamepad-encoder-16.hal and in probe_basic_postgui.hal
#net prog-paused halui.program.is-paused => time.0.pause
net net-halui-program-is-paused => time.0.pause

I have another problem with pb, but in a new thread.

How to fix "Queue is not empty after probing"

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

I must admit with bitterness that version 2.8.4 with its errors in the g38.3+g38.5 part (Probe tripped during non-probe move) works more stably than version 2.9.7 with all its fixes and error (Queue is not empty after probing). The same object (on the machine desktop), ode and the same g-code program, but in version 2.8.4 there are about 60,000 continuous measurements, and in version 2.9.7 there are no more than 40,000.

CNC AXIS IN PARKING MODE

Good morning everyone and thanks for the replies.
It's clearly a machine axis, the Z axis.
The machine is old, and in some operations, it's more convenient to be able to drill manually. We're talking about a machine that works with enormous cast iron bases, 10 meters long, so it must have maximum flexibility.

Rown, basically, using your component, I would have:
net Zenable joint.2.amp-enable-out pid.2.enable isfreewheeling
net Zpos-cmd joint.2.motor-pos-cmd pid.2.command
net Zpos-fb joint.2.motor-pos-fb pid.2.feedback

But I don't understand where to connect: pos_fb_out

You don't need a new component for connecting commanded to feedback position
when the joint is disengaged, and the mux component can already do this function.

That is not the tricky part anyway, the tricky part is returning to LinuxCNC control after
the hand motions  were completed.

Ideally there would be a per joint enable signal (that forced LinuxCNCs internal commanded
position to track the feedback position when disabled) but lacking that, a simple hal profile
generator (using limit3 for example) could be enabled to move to the original position
before control is handed back to LinuxCNC.

Are the drives locked?

Note that on many step drives. the "enable" input is actually a disable input
and disables the drive when powered.

For checking outputs without a oscilloscope, you can measure the DIR output and
see if it changes when jogging in different directions

A following error may indicate a setup issue and needs to be resolved.

7i76eu steppers don't move

Category: Driver Boards

Hi,

I have a DMC2 Mini that I am trying to convert from the Chinese Mach3 board that it came with, to a 7i76eu controlled by linuxcnc.

But I am stuck at getting the stepper motors to move. The DMC2 comes with three Nema23 57-76 motors with built-in controllers, similar to this one:
www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006172891348.html
I have wired the motors like this:
EN-  -> TB2 pin 1 GND
EN+ -> TB2 pin 6 +5VP
DR-  -> TB2 pin 4 DIR1-
DR+ -> TB2 pin 5 DIR1+
PU-  -> TB2 pin 2 STEP0-
PU+ -> TB2 pin 3 STEP0+
But nothing happens when I try to jog the axis. The DRO in the UI change, but the steppers are totally silent. After a while jogging around, I usually get a "Join 0 following error".
I can measure +5v on EN, so I believe that the axis is enabled.

I have just installed LinuxCNC from the livecd, and the configuration is made with pncconf.

Any ideas on what could be wrong, or what I can do to debug it? I don't have an oscilloscope, so I have a hard time actually confirming that the MESA card sends out pulses.

Thank you in advance!

The basic issue is that the current firmware is just GPIO (no Step/Dir hardware etc)

There could be a couple reasons for this:

1. The wrong firmware is installed,

2. The card had corrupted firmware so has loaded the fallback firmware (which is just GPIO)

Did the card vendor supply a firmware file?, it does not look like any standard 7I92 firmware to me

If they did supply firmware, I would try re-writing it with:

mesaflash --device 7i92 --addr 10.10.10.10 --write  vendor_supplied_firmware_file_name.bit --reload

I made some comments on this in another thread about the PDO configuration, you are correct, internally it does configure the PDO's and sets the PDO assignment register ONLY if you set configPdos="true".

EtherCAT + CiA402 Servo: OP state reached, but axis won’t move (only Following E

Category: General LinuxCNC Questions

Very short explanation of how PV ↔ CSP switching works:

Only one CiA-402 mode is active at any time.

In spindle mode (PV):
- The drive receives only target-velocity.
- HAL forces: pos-cmd = pos-fb (follow-mode).
- So the axis has no position error while the spindle is turning.

When switching to C-axis mode (CSP):
- HAL switches pos-cmd from “follow-mode” to the motion planner.
- Since pos-cmd == pos-fb at the moment of switching, there is no position jump and no torque spike.

Why this is valid:
- PV mode ignores position commands.
- CSP mode ignores velocity commands.
- Therefore the drive never receives conflicting commands.
- This fully complies with CiA-402 behavior.

Status:
This configuration has been tested electrically only.
The motors run and switch modes as expected, but the mechanical connection to the machine is not installed yet.

I still stand by my removed comment.
And I'm very sorry to say but you admins are weak and spineless to allow this buffoon to carry on the way he does.
It's a shame the CoC doesn't cover giving advice to members that is completely useless, a waste of time and potentially to the point of causing harm.
But no, the main point is not to hurt anyone feelings or to cause offense.
Who is going to have the intensal fortitude and read Langdon's the riot act. I tried in the beginning to guide him in the right direction but he would appear not to care.
You admins need to take action, I'm sick to effing death in having to make his posts an issue in the hope something will be done to rectify his behaviour. Until then I will keep raising this issue, or you can just ban me. I don't care much, Ive lost faith in every single one on the Admins on this site. You aren't doing a single thing to protect other forum members, especially new ones from his nonsense. At this juncture you all disgust me.

You did not buy a Mesa card. You bought a Chinese clone hoping to save some money then expecting help.
The best thing you can do is read the Linuxcnc documentation.
But any of the quirks with the card itself you are going to have get support from the vendor.
Without knowledge of the schematics no one can say whether it will operate electrically as original Mesa 7i92.
What you have done is bought a rip-off and now expecting those that are loyal to Mesa Electronics to dig you out of hole.

And to be perfectly honest there are plenty of threads regarding configuration, plenty of resources on YouTube and plenty of advice in the docs.
