Thank you for the working HAL sample. Your setup seems to be exactly what I am trying to accomplish. Now how do you deal with the discrepancy in functionality between your physical buttons and the on-screen? Which UI are you using?

I use gmoccapy as well. What I mean is, the red button in the gmoccapy ui has a different function than your red pause button.

The reason why I would like to get it “right” is because I am building the machine for others to use.

The ststus should show correctly in gmoccapy.
You could remove the function call from the gui in gmoccapy for
The buttons. Once you have the big buttons you never use the screen.
The router is at a friends house and he uses it and has not mentioned anything to me.

Here is my control panel for a Router.
Red button is stop .
Green start and resume.
Orange lit is pause or feedhold.

Could you tell us more about your control panel?

That is a pretty open ended question. There is a lot going on in the control panel. What are you curious about and we can go from there. Small chunks are easier to consume and easier for me to explain.

No keyboard, no mouse and no touchscreen. It makes me wonder why you would want to use Gmoccappy whose strength is it uses a touch screen.

You should familiarise yourself with the halui compinent
linuxcnc.org/docs/html/gui/halui.html

Maybe gscreen or touchy would be a better option.
