Hi All,
I'm starting this thread before I make a mess of everything. I have a lathe with a 6 place turret with a 3 disc opto sensor to position turret. This lathe was running mach on the parallel port (with gecko G210) so it is already wired with a breakout board.

I have PathPilot installed (and have a mesa 5i25 card) but have not install the card yet for fear of flashing it wrong. I have also read most of the treads on PathPilot before I started. Also I have downloaded a copy of the 5i25_7i76x2.bit file.

So here is where the question starts, Is this the right directory for Lathe ?

"you will need to set the file permissions for the bit file
group 1002 & owner 1001
so : $ chgrp 1002 <path>/5i25_7i76x2.bit
&
$ chown 1001 <path>/5i25_7i76x2.bit "

,it looks like mill.

Also , will the 5i25 be OK with the gecko drives or do I need Mesa's breakout board ?

Thanks'
Brian

Here is a little more info on the turret.

It only turns clockwise to change tools ,but turns counter clockwise 2 degrees to lock tool after the 3 opto sensors have sensed the proper tool.

You dont need a Mesa breakout board. You can use standard parallel port breakouts.
Also for multi-axis drive step/dir systems like the Gecko G540 or Leadshine MX3660
the 5I25 connects directly to the multi-axis drive. A 7I76 is useful if you require a lot of
digital I/O

Serch the wiki for turret toolchanger and ArcEye, he wrote a comp for exactly that type of turret, i have it installed on a mill with 8 tools, although he has writen it for lathe. It is very easy to modify to your needs, and it does not require remap or anything of the sort.

PCW,
That g540 has the same pin-out as my breakout board, so I loaded the 5i25_g540_v2.bit file into PathPilot to flash the 5i25.

OK,
Have mesa card installed and it got flashed with the 5i25_g540v2.bit , also I have tormach_lathe_5i25a.ini and tormach_lathe_5i25a.hal from cncbashers #2 tutorial up and running and I'm up to the main screen with the reset flashing. Now how do I configure pins to get something to move ?

Thanks'
Brian

There is signs of life, here is the code for the lathe's e-stop from BOB to 5i25

net machine-ok-raw hm2_5i25.0.gpio.003.in_not => machine-ok-db.in (this is pin 15)

Now I'm out of e-stop :)
