The parts are starting to trickle in. I ordered some Hiwin-style knock-off linear rails (20mm), the rack and pinion with reduction - which delivered already, and a new pre-made Z axis with magnetic breakaway made by Arclight Dynamics. That thing is beefy. I also ordered a Duramax retrofit machine torch for it.

I think that seeing you have made the decision to swap out the belts for rack and pinion there is not much point in chasing up what may be wrong with the belt drive system, you may as well use that time preparing for the changeover.
That's the plan. I'm still using the machine to cut some plates I need for my Jeep project. I just use the line cut feature on plasmac. Then I drill on a drill press and it's all gravy. I bet I can use it to make suitable plates for the rack and pinion setup too.

Almost. The gantry and Z will be all-new. I'm gonna try attaching the linear rails and the gear rack on the X axis to the v-slot where the old OX was riding. Should work really well...it's very similar to Cybaluk's 4x4 table.

Lol 'machine' keeps me out of mortal danger with the wife. She'll be glad when I'm busy on the table instead of working on my Jeep build, because that thing costs wayyyyyy more.

Stefan Cymbaluk is a member here, he built some 3 or 4 machines, and he is very good at explaining things, but rarely here.

I have been subscribed to his channel for a few years now . That's what got me interested in building a Plasma in the first place.

I did look briefly. His plasma info is a bit dated but his explanation of hal is very good. It would be a shame if followers built his plasma config when plasmac is now available.

I think his 2nd to most recent build he used a THCAD, then ditched it for a price THC. His most recent (earlier this year) he still had not used plasmac.
