Yes I believe so - setp plasmac.multi-tool 1 Would this be why $2 does not turn the torch on?Do you have multitool enabled in your connections Hal file?

It needs to be 1 to allow $2 to work so you have it set correctly.
EDIT: Have set the Spotting Threshold and Delay in the Congig Panel?
If your image doesn't quite fit you could revert to LinuxCNC 2.8, it doesn't have the active g-codes on the main screen, they are in the MDI tab.
I forgot to mention that you cannot use MDI while paused, the interpreter needs to be in idle mode.
