great! I appreciate the explanation.

well the machine seems to be running around the table... At least at 3.72in/min. slotting g-code with .125in end mill...

will try something faster next cycle. also its not actually cutting just testing for errors.

i ran across this forum for setting up the touch probe and touch pad.
forum.linuxcnc.org/38-general-linuxcnc-q...probe-with-mesa7i76e

Think you can put that into laymans terms? both are normally closed switches. I think this is telling me to find a couple of +5v pins and go to ground.

Thanks for all the help... We are nearly there!!!!

I have probe_basic installed. It has homed itself in the opposite direction for x axis (weird). No limit switches installed yet. There seems to be no un-home command in the probe_basic software. So that axis is locked up.

the touch probe i have wired to TB3-1 and TB3-12. Nothing seems to happen, not even the LED on the probe lights up. meter reads zero volts between the 2 pins.

So I am guessing that something turns tb3-1 on. dont know what. Have not even tried the tool touch pad yet. my guess for that is that it will be the same as probe once i get that figured out.

Can anyone out there point me to the rabbit hole for this set of troubles?
Un-home axis's so i can move them.
install touch probe and maybe tool touch pad. Board is mesa 7i96.

Thank you for your time.

The inputs do not supply power.

If you want the inputs to sense connections to ground, you would connect TB3.12
(Input common) to +5 or +24V and then the inputs would be activated by being
connected to ground (the common of the 5V or 24V supply)

If you want the inputs sense positive input voltages, you would connect TB3.12
to ground and then apply +5V to +24V on the inputs to activate them.

Thank you PCW. I will wire them up this afternoon.

Does anyone know how to remove home on the mill, using probe basic?

Hey i see the signals in HalScope being triggered. Thanks!
I have some limit switches coming in so i will be building that segment over the weekend. At that time, time permitting I will test out if probe actually stops the machine and makes it g54.
In the meantime I would like to get the alarm on the drivers to trigger e-stop on the machine. got any ideas for that? Also a method to clear the driver alarm. Seems to be all i am doing is triggering driver faults.

Thanks for the help!

Ok!
I have the home switches installed. The drewtronics probe is installed and working. The two last things to get going before I can post my final step by step for the solved post.

1. Need to get my tool setter working.
2. Need to setup the manual tool change with the tool length probe function.

We are almost there all! I really appreciate the help. Also hope everyones holiday was great!

Thanks.
Also here is my .hal file so you can see the mystery. Need to figure this hal signal name for the tool setter.
