No I mean trying a Linuxcnc config as python-xlib is a dep of linuxcnc, I'm not talking about designer.

a linuxcnc screen will only fail without python-xlib if it uses that library, which pretty much should require embedding.
Designer uses all widgets so it's requirements are higher.
