Mesa 7i96S bad start was created by Juxus
Hi everyone,

I just started my first LinuxCNC project and unfortunately managed to damage my Mesa 7i96S right away. I accidentally applied about 10 V to the 5 V input for a few seconds. There was a little smoke, and now the board draws about 3 A at 5 V even with no external load connected.

Using a thermal camera, I identified a hot SMD component marked “KE 2E66B” located very close to the 5 V input connector (designator CR43 on the PCB). It heats up immediately when power is applied. Measuring across it shows about 0.6 ohm. From the package and marking it looks like it could be a polarized SMD capacitor (possibly tantalum), but I can’t determine the value or rating.

Can anyone tell me the specifications of this component, or point me to the correct replacement part? Is there a BOM or schematic available that lists its value?

Thanks a lot for your help.

CiA 402 Folder Missing was created by Konstantin
Hello,

I have made the decision to try LinuxCNC for my plasma machine that has been running with Mach3 so far.

Thebplan is to use EtherCAT servos for the motion of the machine. I installed LinuxCNC from the official site Downloads section, the latest stable version - 2.9.8. Then followed MrRodW's video about installing the EtherCAT master and CiA402. This is the -  Video .

The computer I try to run LinuxCNC EtherCAT is a mini conputer a few years old with an HDD of 1TB.

The problem is that when I reched the step that requires using the halcompile command, it executes without any error but there is no cia402 folder in /linuxcnc/configs. Without having the folder, I cannot continue the procedure for CiA40w installation.

What could be the reason that prevents creation of the cia402 folder?

Best Regards
Konstantin Kolev

Beautiful!

You are hands down a genius
PING 192.168.1.121 (192.168.1.121) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 192.168.1.121: icmp_seq=801 ttl=64 time=0.263 ms
64 bytes from 192.168.1.121: icmp_seq=802 ttl=64 time=0.109 ms

Do I still need to flash the fallback.bin and the .bin file?
if so, how can I point mesaflash to these files?

If UP.UP works, stay with that

Then setup you hosts Ethernet interface to a static IP address of say 192.168.1.100

(the current settings will not allow access to the card)

I guess I never tried access to 192.168.1.121?
I have always used 10.10.10.11

If I am not careful the whb04b crashes and only way to restore function is to restart linuxcnc.

I have found it happens when the display does a big re-organization.
Typically I just finished in Auto, with a certain screen layout.
Then I jog in any axis: The HMI switches from Auto to Man, can also be MDI to Man,
the screen re-organizes, buttons appear. At this point it is 50-50
if the whb04b crashes.
I have learnt to avoid using the whb04b to switch modes, and now the whb04b works many hours/days.
It looks like something does not like the relatively long wait for the screen
to rearrange. Happened in Gmoccapy, qtdragon and qtdragon_hd.

Okay, I mostly understand. Configuration of the pendant is a bit clunky. Nice that you got it working somehow and good on you for posting the solution.

I am mainly thinking about improvements to the driver and/or firmware. Of course, configuration could maybe also be improved, but that would not be the priority for me.

Did you have card access before at 192.168.1.121?

What does

ip a

report?

Also with W5,W6 = UP,UP, the fact that the /INIT led blinks means that
the fallback configuration in the flash EEPROM is valid and still works...

I doubt it uses step/dir internally. With a built in driver it most likely
skips that and energizes the coils more directly.
At last that's what I would do.
And then it keeps the count just as a way to determine position,
but not connected to a performance parameter.

I already asked this question in the forum a few days ago.
[solved] XHC-WHB04B-06 rotary knob button feed rate not work

No, the head is working perfectly and all pins are there.
There is just no signal for the feed in program mode.
You need to tap this  from whb.axis.[joint].jog-scale and convert it.

Let's see what the EtherCAT master writes in the syslog when you try to start linuxcnc.
Can you please post the say last 30 lines from syslog? Command "sudo dmesg | tail -30"
Only the ones from EtherCAT are of interest.

With Jumpers W5,W6 UP,UP I see the user led's light up in sequence when I power it up

CR27 lights up green
CR15 led INT keeps flashing red

it seems like I am not able to connect to Ethernet
