I'm trying to use some encoder switches to adjust feed and spindle overrides. I have a mesa 5i25-7i77 set-up. I using the option 3 and the pins 16,17,18,19 . I get a pulse in hal scope showing they are working but must be missing something in the hal file. I moved the encoder to gmoccapy to the post hal as instructed but still doesn't work.

If you are using the built-in encoder (7I77 mode 3), you dont need to add a software encoder (encoder comp)

If you are using a software encoder you must make sure that you addf it to the servo thread

For a software encoder you will need to supply field voltage to your switches,
for the built in MPG encoder, 5V signals are sufficient

i am using the digital inputs not the encoder inputs on the 7i77. I supplied 5 volts to the switches and I can see them working in the hal scope but nothing is happening in the counts. I increased the encoder counts to 8 in the hal. I took some photos and converted them to a pdf and attached them.

Field I/O pins 16,17,18,19 can be use as 2 sets of MPG encoder inputs, when the 7I77 mode is set to 3
This mode does not require a software encoder or looking at the input bits (and can count much faster)

I would suggest using this mode

If you have mode 3 enabled, take a look at the hal pins, there should be ones that end in enc0 and enc1, these are the mpg encoders

Is there another step to changing to mode three other than changing the number to 0=300xxx
