Where do I find sim config sim->axis->vismach->vmc-toolchange? I don't find it on my installation..I don't think it makes sense to add an extra processor. LinuxCNC can do all that is required. See, for example, the sim config sim->axis->vismach->vmc-toolchange
In my current wiring from the base machine to the X axis/ATC location I have 10 wires with signal to the ATC, and 10 with signals from the ATC, all to/from the 7i76 MESA card, as well as various power supplies, etc, This would have to be sufficient to control/monitor the ATC and the small milling spindle. I guess the number of I/O should be sufficient, so I am going to follow your suggestion and leave it to LinuxCNC to manage..
I will go through your references and learn, hopefully.
The ATC hardware is still a few weeks away.

can you confirm that I can stay in 2.7. 14 ?
Nothing here is specific to 2.8, though the INI and HAL will have a different layout in 2.7.

It shoiuld be in the config picker, under "sample configs".
Once you open it, a copy will be made in your linuxcnc/configs folder.
