I do have a 3M long parallel port cable that works properly, it is thick and heavy though.
I also have a 5M that is not a standard parallel port cable despite having DB25 connectors on both sides, it has only 8 wires and ground, it was used to transfer data reliably in the age of floppy drives. And those wires are wired from pins 2-5 they go to pins 10-13 on the other side, same on both ends.
Might be you have such a cable.

Looking through the schematics I think I know what I've done wrong.
I managed to shift the D-sub pinout one step on the higher pin numbers 14 -> 25.
I will try to correct this on the board and then try the card once more.
After that I need to make a new layout.
I will make some additional changes and incorporate 2 DC/DC converters for the 5 and 12 V so I can run the board on 24V.
If anyone is interested in this board I can hand over all the new documentation and gerber files.
I'm also able to make some additional cards if there is a big interest.

If you power both sides of the BOB with a single power supply you loose isolation, and that is the main purpose of a BOB.

I'm not powering the BOB with 1 supply, please look at the schematics.
I have an isolated dc/dc converter on the computer side.
I will add 2 new dc/dc converters for the CNC side.
In total this makes 3 dc/dc converters after my redesign of the board.
Then I'm able to use 1 ac/dc mains supply of 24V for all...

Hi all,
With the pin change, the board is working just fine...
And now I have a working board with a built in NPN proximity sensor solution, thanks all for your help.
