What happens if you just swap the cables over? That will indicate if the problem is with the 7i74 port setup or the 7i84 setup.

Hi,
I have two 7i84 another is connected to Port_0 I tried swapping units and tried another CAT6 cable. No go... I have 5V power supply for this non working 7i84. Could that cause issues? Manual says 5V field power should be ok.

Hi,
Yes that is the issue swapping to 24V field power makes this card work. I have a problem now. This card was supposed to interface MPG and user panel leds (5 volts for both). I measured voltage with Fluke and it was 5.2 volts. Power source is good quality TDK Lambda with 5V/1.5A

That's not a problem. When you put the 7i84 into Mode 3 the threshold voltage of the MPG input pins is automatically set to 2.5V to suit 5V MPG encoders.
I have 5V MPGs and 24V GPIO mixed on my own 7i84 and it works perfectly.

I think your problem is that Logic Power is 8 to 32V. To use 5V GPIO you would need a separate 8V supply to VIN.
You shouldn't need any resistors, you can power the MPG from 5V and connect it to a 7i84 in MPG mode regardless of what field voltage the other IO is using.

But were you using 5v on the VIN (Pin#5 or W1 in the left)? The 7i84 needs 8-32v to run (it's logic).

Andy, Pls read my post again I need +5V for MPG AND user panel leds. Those leds need 330ohm resistors. Todd okay now I see I have to separate Logic VIN from Field Power with W1 jumper that way I can power logic with 24V and use 5V for powering inputs and outputs.

Ok, now it is done. My next question is are inputs now 5V or 24V? Outputs work and are 5V

MPG inputs are always 5V, (2.5 V threshold).
The GPIO inputs adjust threshold to match VFIELD. (But I think that they stay 32V-safe, but check with PCW)
