Your story makes me think of two guys riding in a pickup see an animal laying in the ditch, they stop. One says to the other "is it dead." "Don't know." "Poke it with a stick." He gets out of the truck with a baseball bat and beats it in the head a few times. "Yep, its dead."

It sounds like your cousin uses a particularly brutal form of electronics. Nonetheless a baseball wielding cousin could be handy to call on at times....

It sounds like you are on the right track. If you still get latency errors, let us know. I remember playing around with a number of BIOS Settings and running latency tests until I settled on a working config with the least latency.

Once you are happy it is working reliably, you may wish to add a USB wifi dongle if you need to connect it to your network and the internet.

Tonight, after disabling the WiFi with the command "nmcli wifi off", I haven't seen any errors, yet.
It appears to make a difference, even though, I had not configured an access point, when it was still enabled.
Didn't know it could harm that way...
I'm going to sleep...

Disabling the unused WiFi, that didn't improve to much, after all, I guess.
So I need a more powerful barebone.
This looks very nice (I need a VGA connector), but not cheap.

Unfortunately, "more powerful" doesn't always mean "lower latency"

I don't have a 7i76E so can't give any specific recommendations, though.

Before you give up on your current CPU, What OS/ kernel are you using?
(uname -a will print the kernel version)

If you are using the years old 3.2 Preempt-RT kernel you may do better with a newer kernel
(Trying the new Debian Stretch ISO + 4.9 Preempt-RT kernel is at least worth a try)

Hi Andy,
true!

Hi PCW,
uname -a
Linux LinuxCNC 3.2.0-4-rt-686-pae #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Debian 3.2.89-2 i686 GNU/Linux
Thank you for checking!

Jack.

I would try what PCW suggests. If you buy new hardware, you probably will need to use a more modern build of Linux to get the driver support so you might as well practice on your existing hardware!

I have not got any direct experience but when I was looking for hardware, Celeron based chipsets were recommended. PCW will know more but something like a N3160 cpu which will save you some money. Your Chinese friends will have one....

Hi Rod,
I found this refurbished PC, not expensive, but it may not be a Celeron.

This was the cheapest, though.

Jack, sorry I can't really advise you on hardware. There are a few Core2's listed here
