we tested the drive last weekend hence the wire was left on the enable pin, I can confir the servo drive works and you can jog the motors through the interface on the servo drive.
There is no resitance on the motor at all, they turn freely after I press F2..
It appears they are not enabled as the RUN dont come up on the LCD on servo drive, so how do I verifi the enable ?

I would verify that you can enable/disable the drives independent of LInuxCNC and the 7I97
before proceeding. The 7I97 enable outputs are basically switches, so if you can enable the
drive with a mechanical switch, you can then substitute the 7I97 enable outputs.

when I bypass the 7i97 and enable the servo drive the axis moves as soon as I press F2, so its running away and generating a following error.

Why are you running LinuxCNC?

You first need to verify that the drive enable/disable works
and that the drive holds position when enabled but unconnected
to the 7I97

We tested the drives last weekend without Linuxcnc, and we could jog both the Z and X axis in + and - using the servo drive, all worked ok, so now we have installed and upgraded linuxcnc to 2.8.2 and have this nasty problem.
all in previous posts.

Have you verified

1. That you can enable/disable the drives with their enable input?
2. That the motor holds position (or drifts slowly) when enabled?
(all this should be done without the 7I97 connected or linuxCNC involved)

I can confirm when we enable the servo drive the motor drifts slowly.

I can confirm when we enable the servo drive the motor drifts slowly.

That is normal for velocity servo systems.

so why cant we get the servor to enable through linuxcnc? to jog the motor.
I might need some help here as after a week of fiddling around all I got is the encoders showing on DRO.

How is servo -on wired?

Looks like it should be

+24V --> DICOM (13)
7I97 ENA+ --> S-ON (14)
7I97 ENA- 24V COMMON

Assuming active low Drive digital inputs
