ok interestingly enough if I wire it like this
VFD FWD -> PIN2
VFD 5vin -> PIN2
VFD GND -> PIN1
VFD 5vout -> PIN3
I can control the spindle speed from Linuxcnc
M3 S10000 gets it to about half speed (According the the VFD LDC)
Is this expected/ Safe ?

No, you should not connect a digital input (FWD for example)
to the analog output (TB4 pin 2)
FWD should connect to ENA+ and ENA- should connect
to VFD GND.
This is necessary so LinuxCNC can enable/disable the
drive

I'm kind of at a loss at this point, maybe the VFS is mislabeled for a setting on it is not correct.

With VFD FWD connected to
ENA+ and and VFD GND connected to ENA-,
what voltage do you read on VFD FWD
(relative to VFD GND)
when the spindle is enabled in LinuxCNC?

ALso does anyone know of a cheaper VFD for a 1.5kw spindle that might work better with the 7i76 card/Linuxcnc ?

Just to complete this discussion, I bought a Huanyang VFD hooked it up with a guide here.
www.diycncdesign.com/linuxcnc-2.8-huanyang-vfd.html
Works, but not sure what was wrong with the old VFD, it works in manual mode fine. But the Huanyang is higher quality for sure.
