A 1 to 2 meter long wingspan using a Clark-Y should do well. or longer if you prefer motor gliders.
it would probably depend more on how heavy the whole plane would be or all up weight.
If you're expecting to fly outside on mildly windy days or inside a warehouse .
Some of the indoor warehouse planes can get impressively large.

I have 6S batteries rated at 32AH and 10C weighing in at 3.7KG, so halving that to 3S would be 1.9KG, elctronics and motors and GPS and stuff another KG, plane due to not being able to find anything useful here would have to be styrofoam or that dense pink styro and would need to be covered in fiberglassed resin so probably at least another KG, totaling close to makes no difference 4KG.
I have 2213 motors with 10" two bladed props that can lift 1.1KG each at 4S, probably 0.6KG at 3S ... and writing this the reality kicks in, this might be to heavy for two of those motors ...
What is the weight to lift ratio for a plane that can handle a bit of wind?

P.S.
Sorry for being absent a bit lately, had flooding on both shops a few days back so cleaning all day every day for now.

WOW  4Kg is a lot of weight for a couple 2213 motors and 10" props to get into the air. That said you definitely
wouldn't be worried about the wind. You would probably need the wind to get off the ground. I will admit my
expertise in such matters is limited. If it were me I would probably go with a delta wing or a flying wing design so
it would cut through the air nicely and still give lots of lift for the weight. The old Avro Vulcan bomber would
give a good starting point. Lots of wing area . At that point though one would need to think about what size
servos and or how many to use per control surface.  For my stuff I am staying in the under 1Kg region.
For now anyway. LOL

So it's been a few weeks since an update  and I figured I would post a few pics of my recent progress.
Did someone say 5th axis? Because that's what this is

And with a piece of foam mounted on it

I still have to figure out exactly how to get the GRBL controller to work with it but that's a different matter altogether.
I may be at the point where I have to switch to the Marlin firmware.  but we'll see.

Yay, it's spinning ! :)
I did build one of these some 15 or more years ago, dimensions are 1X1X2 meters (2 meter wire length) with all independent axis and a rotary table that can spin me, easily. Still working, the only issue it ever had is a lighting strike killed the old Dell PC so yanked the HDD and put it into a new-ish one, still working, still using Ubuntu 10.04 i had installed when it came out, it had 8.04.
It can do 3D stuff at 1X1X1 meter at once, so it did a lot of decorations for some fancy hotels around here.
As for GRBL/Marlin, sooner or later you will have to move to LinuxCNC, although i do recall vaguely there was a software for wings, no idea what exactly it did, but pretty sure it was open source.

Oh I agree and the eventual goal is to run linuxcnc on it . For now I am just seeing how far I can
push simple hardware. The end goal will be a 7i96 because I have 2 in my inventory but the newer
S version would work just as well. I don't think MESA makes a cheaper 5 axis ethernet board
then the 7i96S.
as far as free wing design software I use this

What program did you use for your 5 axis ? or did you have to hand write the G-code?
