When I say sluggish I mean that when I jog the axis in continuous mode, the z will continue to move long after I stopped jogging.


That sounds like it might be very low accel settings in the INI/hal

It might even be that the axis settings are OK, but the _stepgen_ accel is too low.

A more obscure possibility is that you are using a non-trivial kinematics, like Gantrykins, and there is an INI file parameter (DEFAULT_ACELLERATION) missing.

Andy,
I am using Trivkins and the DEFAULT_ACCELERATION is set as far as I remember.

What is the rule of thumb for the stepgen acceleration setting. I have the stepgen set at 8200 if the axis acceleration is set at 8000. Is there a more scientific way of making sure that the setting is correct.

I've found that acceleration is usually 10-20 times higher than max speed.
