To make it clearer, with the mother ASUS P8 H 61-M LX Rev 3.0 any of the 10.04 LTS (with or without Linux CNC) work.
The error is what I mentioned in my first post.
On the other hand, 12.04 LTS and 13.04 install properly but I need Linuxcnc.
We make RobotMatic CNC equipment ( robotmatic.blogspot.com) in Argentina. We have 5 new mothers with this problem for 5 new RobotMatic.
So far, the only solution we have is using old mothers.
Will Linux 2.6 work with 12.04 LTS????

There is no LinuxCNC 2.6. The latest released version is 2.5.2. There are several experimental branches and the branch Master is often mistaken for 2.6 with does not exist.

It will work perfectly fine, assuming you get the Xenomai 3.5.7 kernel up and running ok

Once you have 12.04 up, follow these steps: wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?XenomaiKernelPackages

Please report if you can get that to work; we very likely be of limited help if this board doesnt work/work well with that kernel

Once that works, you can build off this branch: git.mah.priv.at/gitweb?p=emc2-dev.git;a=...heads/rtos-master-v0

this branch isnt announced yet, but it has been reported to work fine and is uptodate wrt master and v2.5_branch as of yesterday

alternatively you can try Debian wheezy and the rt kernel which is stock in debian; this should work too

IMO there is no reason to be fixated on Ubuntu anymore, and much of the stuff in 12.04 is more of a legacy than a help

What if anything do you have to do after installing Debian Wheezy to get the rt kernel?

Thanks

the current wheezy RT-PREEMPT kernels are tagged linux-image-3.2.0-4-rt*

image should do; kernel headers are not required for the abovementioned branch

from there on its all stock: boot that kernel
pull that branch, and as usual:
cd src
sh autogen.sh
./configure
make
sudo make setuid

latency will very likely be a bit worse than the xenomai kernel

Thanks Michael!
I'm trying everything you suggested. I'll follow the instructions step by step although I'm not expert at Linux but I have many many hours on Linuxcnc.
In my humble opinion 10.04 version is old fashioned and I feel that the project Linuxcnc should have migrated to a much more modern Linux.
I know and I respect that it's hard work. I appreciate your effort.
Thanks and regards,
Eduardo

Hi Friend,

ubuntu-10.04-linuxcnc3-i386.iso Supports in AHCI mode.

Step1: Goto BIOS Settings

Step2: SATA Configuration

Step3:Change SATA mode to AHCI Mode

Step4:Save and Exit

Now you can install in SATA hard drives

Hopefully he has already tried that, as it was the first thing that I advised

First of all check that SATA is in AHCI mode in BIOS

But maybe not

Thanks ArcEye and 3kamalakkannan for your replies.
Today I finally installed Ubuntu 10.4 in the mothers.
The solution was setting SATA as AHCI mode and jumping the harddisc as master.
So far that's all.
Thanks again.

Eduardo
