On that page I linked to it lists the 'slope' as 6mm, and in the operating manual it lists the following :

Steps/U at 1/10-Step Control : 2000
Thread pitch XY : 6 mm
Thread pitch Z : 6 mm

The stepper motors are Sanyo Denki type 103h7126-0740. They list a step angle of 1.8, so 200 turns. Using your calculation with 6mm, this would give 333.33333 recurring. Which is what is in the config files in this thread for the Z axis, but they have 200 for the Y and Z axis? So I must be missing something somewhere.

The pins took a bit of messing around with to get right, as did the charge pump and the homing directions. But it feels like I'm close now. Everything seems to work OK, it's just this scale issue. Thanks again for your help.

OK, i would first edit the ini file, find lines with step space and step time, make values at least 5000 for those on all axis/joint sections.
See if the motors run smoother.

The step space and step time values were already 5000. I just changed the settings to 600 / 2 for the X/Y axis and to 1000 / 2 for the Z axis to give me the same scales as in the settings files people shared in the is thread. 200 and 333.333333r. I did a test cut of the LinuxCNC logo, and it all gust fine, but it is still 15% to 20% too small.

Is there anything else in the settings, other than this scale value, that can change the scale?

Thanks again.

Set the scale to what your machine needs, not to what internet tells you.
Use a tape measure, move the machine using MDI to 100, then 200, and when you are close to scale, use the maximum travel the machine can do .

Thanks. Good advice. I'm at work at the moment, but I'll do that when I get home. I guess my mill is an even older version than the ones people shared their config files for, and something on it must be slightly different from their mills.
