I am using the histogram found when you start linuxcnc. A Configuration Selector Screen appears that has several choices. Under Sample Configurations is Apps, under that is latency, and under that are four choices, I am using latency-histogram.
I have linuxcnc installed on the computer.

One other thing!
I just noticed this compute doesn't have ps2 connections for the mouse and keyboard. Currently I am using a wireless usb combination mouse keyboard. Is this a big problem??
Thanks

I am new to this and am trying to understand or improve my pc issues too.
Why is your latency test screen so different than mine? Mine has no graph features, just 6 numeric fields. It doesnt show the computers specs either.

Hey
I dug out one of my old computers and thought I'd try getting it to run linuxcnc. Its a Insignia computer with a Intel D845EPI/D845GVSR motherboard. A Celeron processor but it only has 1.5 gig of memory, DSS 266.
The plot looks bad and I've tried shutting down things in the Bios but then it wouldn't run right so I had to put it back.
Do you think this could run a servo/tacho/glass scale system??
My only reason for using this computer is its much smaller size.
Anyone know if the Mesa 5i525/7i77 kit comes with the cable pictured??
Do I need to order anything else?? I've got a DIN rail adapter set of 3 on my wish list.
Thanks a lot folks

If that is the best it can do, I'd say it's not good enough.

100uS is just about within scope if using a Mesa FPGA card.

Old hardware like that may run significantly better with an older kernel, such as what is on the old Linuxcnc Ububtu 8.04 live CD. I think I've read about others compiling new custom patched real time kernels for old single core cpus for newer Linux distros such as Wheezy. (but I haven't a clue how to do it myself, or if it is really worthwhile.)

I loaded up 8.04 but it could not be updated and the linux-install.sh had the same errors looking for a IP address. Because 8.04 is no longer supported apt-get update fails and apparently the linux-install script depends on the same repo.
Looking into Lubuntu 12.04 as a possible os.
Do you think updating the BIOS would buy me anything??
Thanks
Jim
