Is this the right way to connect the diodes?

No. only 1 diode per relay. Bengt has shown you how to do it on the bottom of page 1. Very clear.

As a complete electronics noob I don't understand the drawning.

The wire on the side of the diode with the stripe goes to the 7i77 output pin. The side you have labled GND goes to field power COM.

The the two wires on the right where you have mistakenly labeled +24V is your contacts that will do whatever you want this output to do.

Where does this go = +24v
GND = -24v

So the diode goes between these.
