Mesa 7i76e wiring was created by Bello
Hi all,
I have bought a mesa 7i76e for my machine.
I'm trying to setup it but I really not understood how to wires it.
From documentation I read that if I want use a 10.10.10.10 ip address on mesa I just move w3 jumper from down to up and I have done it.
After that I have edited the /etc/network/interfacesfile and added the following rows:

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 10.10.10.1
netmask 255.255.255.0

and restarted the network service.
Now I'm able to see my eth0 configured on the 10.10.10.1 ip.
When I try to ping the mesa I obtain:

Destination is Unreachble error message....why?

I'm using a normal ethernet cable between PC and MESA (directly without passing via any router or switch) and I have connected the board to 5v power supply. I see only the mesa led lighting....
What I wrong?

Can I directly connect the mesa with Linuxcnc PC using a normal ethernet cable or I need a crossed (or specific other) one?

Please help me!

Thank you in advance.

"Destination is Unreachable" is likely a host network setup issue

what does the command:

ip a

report?

( also the 7I76E uses a Ethernet interface with the "MDIX" feature so either crossover or straight Ethernet cables will work equally well )

"NO-CARRIER"

do you have link lights on the 7I76E?

Yes I have. CR1 lighitng in green and CR2 red.

Could depends that maybe I m using a wrong kernel ?

I read here that could depends from it but I m really confused now:

forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...-find-module-hm2-eth

my version is:
user@debian:~$ uname -v
#1 SMP PREEMPT Debian 3.4.55-4linuxcnc

I have downloaded the image from www.linuxcnc.org/linuxcnc-2.7-wheezy.iso

I ve tried it in live mode and not, got the same issue.

CR1 on means that the FPGA could l not load its configuration data
So you may have a bad power supply or corrupted Flash data

I would verify that you have a good 5V supply and if that good try the alternate flash chip

The supply seems good, I will try another one asap and will let you know.

What you mean for alternate flash data?
The mesa is new and I have only unpackaged and connected it, how flash data was corrupted ?

The 7I76E has 2 flash chips and you can select between them with a jumper
(this is described in the manual)

I would not expect a corrupted flash chip but it does happen occasionally

You mean W3 modes or you are referring to another jumper one?

Which test can i do to verify that all is OK?

When you say link lights are you referring to those ones on the ethernet port? Because really those arent lighting in a mesa and the same on the pc

Check page 4 of the manual under heading:

FPGA FLASH SELECT

(if the FPGA does not load you will not get any link lights)
