7i77 CR16 red

I just startet with LinuxCNC, got a MESA 7i76e (REV.B ) and a 7i77 (REV.C) card and wired the basic things. I've installed the latest Debian + LinuxCNC + mesaflash as BigJohnT descibed it (thank you, btw, very helpful guide) and played arround with 3 working axis with a little stepper. Also all 7 encoder inputs are working and I see 6 analog outputs on the 7i77.

Unfortunately I can't see the field IOs on the 7i77 and the CR16 LED is red. The W4 and W12 are in the left position.
The firmware I wrote to the 7i76e is this one: 7i76e_7i76x1_7i77x1D.bit (change date: 13 Sep 2014)

I attached the dmesg (cleared before LinuxCNC was executed) and the terminal output from starting and closing LinuxCNC.

What did I miss?

Do you have the field power attached to both the 7i77 and the 7i76e? The Smartserial connections will not be seen unless they have power supplied to them.

Yes, I have. I actually can see anything on the 7i76e, only no field IOs on the 7i77. CR16 is only on, if field power is connected to the 7i77. Regarding to the manual, CR16 means:
"Field I/O fault; The red LED CR16 indicates a watchdog fault, which is
expected before host communications are established."

Therefore I think the problem is software related.

can you post your hal and ini files?

Looks OK, Not sure whats going on, here are a few guesses:

Possible bad cable/connection to 7I77
If you changed W12 did you power cycle the 7I77s field power?
Is the 7I77s W1 in the left hand position?
Marginal 5V power on 7I77
Conflct in 7I76E/7I77 5V power jumpers

The cable is new, but I'll check with another cable (takes a bit time).
Never changed W12, but power cycled the board incl. field power several times.
W1 on 7i77 is in the right hand position with 24V connected to the pins 1 + 5 of TB2 and ground to pin 8.
TB1 on 7i77 has 5,11V. Should I measure that at another point?

Jumpers on 7i76e:
W7: down
W6: up
W1: right
W8: left
W4: up
W5: up

Jumpers on 7i77:
W5: right
W4: left
W1: right
W12: left

Maybe this is important: CR16 turns red immediately (<1s) after switching on power. 5V power for both cards is from the same power supply. Same with 24V, so they power up at the same time. Is there a dependency, that the FPGA-card has to be ready before powering the other one?

No there's no power dependencies other than 5V and field power must be present before starting LinuxCNC

Before I try another cable: Should CR16 light up if no DB25 cable is connected?
