Hello nadine,
I'm going to retrofit a Jonsdorf 20-07 and I would like to use the same cards as you did a 7i76e with a 7i77. Did you get your problem solved? and do you recommend this combination. Kind regards Joost

Hi Joost, sorry for my late reply.
Yes, the problem is solved, it was a hardware failure and it was repaired by MESA. It works now.
I have stepper motors and will change them to servos, that's the reason I use this combination. And it provides a lot of IOs and encoder ports. I think if you have both, servos and steppers and if you use several encoders, it's a good choice. Also, there's a working firmware available and you don't need to change anything in it. But it's difficult to recommend it overall, because i'm a beginner, it depends on what you plan to do and I don't know Jonsdorf machines.
Hope this helps.
Nadine

Hello, nadine,
can you send me your Hal and ini?
I'm currently configuring a 7i76e and 7i77 as well.
Since I'm a beginner, that would be a good help.
Thank you

Hi Sviper
Unfortunately, I've no access to it right now, but it's pretty simple to generate a working configuration with the pncconf wizard:
linuxcnc.org/docs/html/config/pncconf.html
I could copy the files in a few days, if you're still interested.

Hello gentelmen,
I am standing in front of similar problem which is discribed here.
I want to switch from STEP/DIR output on 7i76e board to analog +-10V control output on 7i77 which I want to plug on to expansions port from 7i76e. My driver allows emulation of position feedback with 1Vpp signal to TTL AquadBquad signal wich should be feedback to encoders of 7i77 board. This will help me with real feedback and finally I will start using full potencial of real time feedback system.
I want to double check if all connection is right for my purpose before anything plug together. I read manuals from 7i76e and 7i77 for few times but not fulling understand of 5V logic power, VIN power and field power problematic.
I have only one power source for all stuff with 24V potencial. I have VIN and field power on 7i76e connected together with W1 in left position. This stuff power my 7I76Es field outputs and field logic power. 7i76e is on and all stuff working. Then I will update mesa firmware from mesanet.com with firmware allows me to connect 7i77 to one from 26pins conncetors. This is done and next is main goal of my unknowledgement and mismatch. How to correctly power 7i77 if I want to use only one power supply with 24V potential?
If I want to supply 7i77 5V control logic side from FPGA board then I will have W5 jumper on LEFT side on the 7i77 and on the 7i76e I will have W7 or W12 (depend which expansion port I am using for) UP?
And
For using external 5V power source connected on TB1 on the 7i77 I will have W5 jumper on RIGHT side on the 7i77 and on the 7i76e I will have W7 or W12 (depend which expansion port I am using for) will have DOWN as it is default?
Thanks,
Regards Slav

I would suggest waiting to see if PCW replies, this is something he can be definitive about.
But, I think you have W5 and W1 confused.
W1 - Left to connect VIN and VField.
W7, W12 UP to power the 7i77 from the 7i76E
W5 - Leave that UP to enable 5V tolerance on logic IO.

For cable 5V power to 7I77:
7I77 W5 LEFT
7I76E W7 UP (for P1)
For external 5V power to 7I77:
7I77 W5 RIGHT
7I76E W7 DOWN
Supply 7I77 5V power from 7I76E P3
7I77 W5 LEFT
7I76E W7 UP (for P1)
For external 5V power to 7I77:
7I77 W5 RIGHT
7I76E W7 DOWN
Supply 7I77 5V power from 7I76E P3

Yes it works like you described. I am on and CR 16 is off after the lcnc startup and CR15 flashing in 1hz... thanks gentelmen
now I want to move from step generators(which are on 7i76e) to analog diferential outputs(which are on 7i77)... setup the differential TTL encoders from 7i77 and try the PID... this will be the pain, because it is my first analog setup..
I do not know want what will be with my other setup... MPG mainly this should be pain to tune up

Have a look here, detailed info on wiring and testing encoders, analog outs, enables, etc, as well as tuning:
