The 7i76 spindle out is effectively an electronic potentiometer. It supplies 0 V to Vin V. This is normally perfect for most VFDs.
What input does the Heidenhain VFD require? And do you need to run the spindle backwards anyway?

So I have some chinese servo drives coming that I was going to set up with step and direction options. Now I have just been reading up and it looks like the 7i76 board does not have +-10 volts on the spindle analog output. Can someone confirm that please?

Hi Andy.
Quick reply here on my ph..
I think I was a bit misleading with my question. I have a yaskawa vfd. It takes +-10 volts analog to control it.
I only took the brake resistor from the heidenhain vfd. I am not using a heidenhain vfd.
I don't care what control voltage I use but this is a full scale VMC and I need rigid tapping and spindle orientation for the toolchanger. Can I do this with only 0 to +10 volts?
And thanks for the reply! I'm just amazed at the level of support you have consistently given to linuxcnc over many years reading all the forum posts.
Regards
Andrew

Just a quick add on here. I assume as I want to rigid tap that I need reverse working well? Unless I can toggle a reverse input on the vdf. Is that possible?

Yes, the 7i76 has 0-10V, ON and DIR outputs.
So if the VFD can reverse on the logical switch value everything is OK.
If not then some workaround would have to be found.

Ok Here is a screen shot of the vdf manual.
It look like I have a direction input.
So I will be all good.
Thanks for the help and I will post back here when the boards arrive.

Hi everyone
I am now starting to set up my 5i25 and 7i76 boards with linuxcnc
I have installed linuxcnc and am playing in Pncconf at the moment. My question is does anyone know of any good tutorials for setting it up? I can't find any good tutorials and the tutorials in the docs look out of date. Everything is different. It is pretty annoying as It doesn't seem that hard to set up it is just the lack of info that is holding me up.
Regards

Where were you looking? It should be as simple as going to www.linuxcnc.org and clicking "documentation".

Hi Andy.
I'm not sure where I ended up. But the place I found had the old pncconf photos for sure.
And I'm not the only one confused..
But thanks so much for the link.
