Some 6 years ago was running gantrykins on ubuntu 10.04 with Gecko 540 gear through parallel port.
Fortunately I still have copies of my original Hal and ini files.
Was running 4 joints on cnc router with joints 0 and 3 running x axis forward and reverse respectively (steppers opposed facing).
The old computer has since died so am looking at setting up a new machine.
I have loaded LinuxCNC 2.7.14 Debian 7 Wheezy but can't seem to find a gantrykins configuration.
Can anyone please advise or recommend a new setup for me. I have seriously reverted to totally noob.

Cheers Paul

Upgrade to 2.8 or 2.9, it has joints/axis feature so you can have 2 or more joints configured as axis natively.

Thanks for that I now have 9.5 stretch.
Where would i find joints/axis feature?
I have looked through all the axis configs but don't seem to find one, are they native to all axis configs?

Thanks Paul

The debian version has nothing to do with the Linuxcnc version. You need to change the Linuxcnc repository to point to the 2.8 or Master version of Linuxcnc. Then perform an update either with Synaptic or sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrade.

Unfortunately my assigned expert border tag definitely does not reflect my computer skills. After 6 years out of the loop I have seriously reverted to totally noob.
I am getting better latency on my old Ubuntu 10.04 i 386 iso, burnt in Dec 2012, by about half on temporary or live install than on the Linuxcnc 2.7 Strech-Uspace i386 iso full install. Unfortunately after spending a day trying to figure out how to point to 2.8 or master and trying to do sudo updates and upgrades and getting requests for grub in bootloader or something I am now totally confused.
I have my original gantrykins files, how do I set them up to run in a new a new Axis config in Ubuntu10.04 please.
Cheers Paul

I don't think 2.8 and beyond support ubuntu 10.04. You cold try the Debian wheezy k iso. It uses RTAI and should give almost as good latency. But it is also eol. If you feel like cutting your teeth on the bleeding edge you could give this a try forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...or-new-rtai-packages
But I have not tried it myself.

What do you mean by "LinuxCNC 3" ?

If you are using LinuxCNC 2.7, and you still have your old gantrykins configs, what is it that isn't working now?

Hi Andy thanks for your interest,

I am running Gecko 251 drives with MB-02V6 Bidirectional Breakout board
All Parallel ports are to be active high
I selected Gantry with gantrykins from configs and created desktop shortcut.
I then cut and pasted my files into the config .
When I try to run it on my machine I get the following.

I removed the combined limit / home switches, spindle and probe from the machine to simplify things
may actually have complicated things :(
I have set Parallel port to SPP mode
