Hey guys Im a total noob here so please excuse any wrong terms ect.
So I am building (attempting to!) a 3 axis gantry cnc Router with 4 steppers, dual x axis(with the hopes of adding small plazma and laser head later)
my hardware is as follows:
Chinese BOB..the one they give away for free..haha mmmm
4x wantai dq860ma drivers currently set to 1600pulse/rev (or 8x micro stepping?)
4x wantai nema 34 stepper motors 85byg450d-008 5.6amp 1.8deg/step(200step per rev?)
4x wantai 60v 5.85amp p/s
1x stepdown transformer to supply bob.
chinese 2.2kw router and Chinese vfd.
Now before I start I have tried countless combos ect of settings and this seems to be all that works..
I have attached photos and screen shots to try help you guys know what I have.
I had one set of settings (on an old acer laptop)running in stepconfig...with really good motor responses and speeds..but when trying to run linux cnc it was terrible..I worked out it was a latency problem..so I got a dell optiplex 760 with ssd(see phoso for specs) but all the stepconfig settings where TOTALLY different to even get the machine to run..and it runs alot slower...
I know that the settings in stepconfig on the optiplex are wrong in theory but its all i can do to get to to run..and run accurately..
please help and tell me where im going wrong..
I have attached photos of all my settings.
running latest linuxcnc 2.7.15
Thanks
Jono

What version of linuxcnc ? For a start check the step timings linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/config/images/stepconf-base_en.png
try:-
step_time 5000
step_space 5000
dir_hold 20000
dir_setup 20000
Post your ini and hal files.

ok so I have tried those step timings..and stepper just jitters and skips steps everywhere..also tried changing the microstepping but didnt change anything..
here are the .ini and .hal files of both the old acer and the dell..the machine runs on the dell but is very slow.. max velocity is around 24 If I remember correctly..
on the acer I had it near 100 in stepconfig..
here are the Acer
here are the Dell
Thanks
Jono
