@Mike In hal steplen is 1 cycle, i think, not very sure about it, but all my configs for parport have that set to 1 and the stepspace set to 0, i checked last night.
So at 100K base thread that would be 10000ns or 10 us. That should be all good as he can move the machine while in stepconf, but in axis it does not, so the enable or estop out should be checked.
Thank you for your continued support.
P.S.
Can you please tell that lion to get off of that tree and go hunt something, it's making me look bad! Yeah, i am a lion. :)

You know tommy thats a pure bluff!
I'm a capricorn.

And laziness is the best motivator for an engineer!
So I'm hanging around whole day, letting other peoples run around, to fullfill my ingenious daydreams.
I might be jalouse not living in down under and have some tasty leafs.. Sniff

You are a lazy lion. Arrrg.
Thank you both for your help. I know all too well how difficult it is to provide remote support.

Test results are in. No joy.
Using stepconf does in fact work for each axis and advances each motor properly. Occasionally I can hear the CNC application access the motors as it is starting up and loading. This indicates that the hardware is good.

I have tested all scenarios offered. At this point it appears that the application has a problem sending control commands to the hardware. It may be something to do with the sherline configurations controls or the CNC code module itself. It also be something to do with the amd64 install versus the i386 install. I really don't think at this point it has anything to do with the stepper motor timing controls.

I am going to try the Debian Strecth i386 install on another hard drive but I'm expecting the same results if same CNC code is used.

I will wait to do that until you guys tell me your out of options.

Again, thanks guys for all your help.

Check if you can move the motor by hand before enabling LinuxCNC and after enabling it.

You have to give us a clear answer on this.
The thing that you can hear motors do something during start of Linuxcnc makes this not avoidable.
This is the third time i am asking this, and you gave a non descriptive answer to it.
We really need to know exactly if you can turn the motors by hand, when the power to the drives is on and
-no linuxcnc
-linuxcnc started but not out of e-stop ( No pressing F1 and F2 )
-linuxcnc started and enabled

I have a power which on the controller. With power off the motors turn and I can operate the mill manually.

With no CNC and power on the motors are detented. I can force move the motors manually but it is not easy.

With CNC on and power on the motors are detented. I can force move the motors manually but it is not easy.

The stepper motors make kind of a hissing sound when power is on. Occasionally when I start CNC, as the app is starting I can hear the hissing stepper motor sound change slightly indicating that it does have some access to them.

On sherline machines the power is separate and CNC has no access or control of it.

OK, moving on
if you press arrow keys left and right several times like : left, right, left, right, do the motors move or change the whiny noise ?

I do not have arrow keys, I have a plus and minus key, and YES, the motors are being accessed when I press those. But not moving.
