The screenshot didn't quite work, when you click shoot it closes the pull down machine menu, so you get the Linux main screen, but the top half of the "Machine " menu is greyed out

This sounds like e-stop is active.

Perhaps the new parallel port has a different default pin state. Or perhaps it simply hasn't been found.

don't know how to print/capture the hall file. I can go to HAL config and look at the settings, where do I find e-stop?

Hit the "reply" button, then click the "go to editor" link lower right and then there is an "attach file" button.

Ok, I'm back. I just can't deal with complicated linux commands at my age. Can any one give me a link to a card that will work for sure?
