I had bought and installed a parallel board (no drivers) and was able to set up and use linuxcnc wizard no problems.  I then attached the parallel port to a breakout board (new) and it all went south.I am attaching the report. No idea what to do.Thanks for any help

Error: could not insert module /usr/realtime-3.4-9-rtai-686-pae/modules/linuxcnc/hal_parport.ko: No such device

Looks like the parallel port is not found.

I had issue as well, kernel less then 4 does not recognize attached boards. Install kernel 4.xx and higher then you'll get recognize you parport card.

What do you mean by installed? Pushed into the PCI/e slot or?

Were you able to test the card using Stepconf with the BOB attached to a stepper motor and driver?

I should have been more clear. By "install" I meant I pushed the pci (not pci/e) into the slot.
Not familiar with "stepconfig" Is that a terminal command? I can hook up the rest.
Where do I find the kernel greater than 4.xxx?
Maybe I should reinstall the whole system if there is a version that will cover all of this.
Thanks all for your help.

I see you are still running Debian Wheezy with LCNC 2.8.3.

There might be newer kernel backports for Wheezy but you can just upgrade to Buster
www.linuxcnc.org/downloads/ with all 5.x kernels

Sounds reasonable to me. Im not sure what giving up some realtime performance equates to but I plan not to have anything else running while operating the router.

Thanks

Just run a preempt_rt kernel and you'll likely be fine.

Im not sure what giving up some realtime performance equates to

What are you referring to here? Why do you think that by upgrading to Buster and 5.x kernels would have an effect on realtime?
