So does this encoder just send info at a 2.mhz baud rate, does it wait for a data request signal it only seems to have output pins? I don't really have much to go on to debug this fanuc encoder myself or to even handball it. Which makes removing them a better option.

It needs to be sent a request, and its a code I think, I need to make a pattern generator
in the FPGA to test the one I have so will take a while.

No worries, looking at adapting one of these for feedback, 1024ppr, that really adds up to 4096 quadrature counts, so with a 10mm leadscrew, this would give a 0.002mm resolution.

No, I never got around to reverse engineering its protocol
