I can do some tests whenever i get to the shop and report back.
All built in parallel ports that i have tested worked in X mode, all were on used "enterprise" PC's from Dell, HP, Lenovo and Fujitsu.
Also did test one of the PCI cards in X mode and it worked with the above mentioned issue that it did require a bit more current to trigger, not sure of the exact one as i had over 10 versions.
