Hi PCW:

Thanks for your reply.
When you mentioned: "So if you don't have dual homing switches you need to setup immediate homing"...can you tell me more about that please?

Thanks for your help and support! I set up my parallel port in the step config just as your image above. I have my motors and bob set up on my desk as a test set up to work out the set up without injury to my machine. In a real world application Id need to be able to jog my Y axis (both motors driven at same time) tgether at once. Would I need to set up something in one of the hal or ini files?

Thanks again for your help.

Never mind, I found the issue. It was my fault I mis-wired one of the pins on the bob.Great learning experience with the LinuxCNC software digging through the particulars! You guys pointed me in the right direction, much appreciated!

where did you find the solution for it? i am a day old with linux and i am trying to set up linuxCnc by comparing to my mach3 setting and i went over a few times and when i try to test Y Axis, A Axis does not fallow Y (at least on the test page as i am setting up step config) Pins are correct as i double checked according to my mach3 settings
by the way i am using a g540 board with 4 axis

Any help much appreciated
Thanks in advance

Have you tried just importing the Mach3 configuration? That is an option.

("import mach file" on the first page)

That still might not properly configure a gantry, as I am not sure if LinuxCNC can tell the difference between a Y2 or a true A when parsing the Mach file.

Rather than configure it as an "A" configure it as a "Tandem Y" in the drop-downs.

I tried importing .XML file but did not go thru and tried tandem y from drop menu according to pins but stepper will not move. Maybe I am doing something wrong along the way I will keep looking for it, do you know if running the live Linux from usb diver would have any restrictions? I bought this machine and computer is old my latency is about 55k so not sure how well LinuxCNC will work. I did a few upgrades on the machine itself I guess the next step is pc and OS and then decide if I stay with mach3 or LinuxCNC

Thanks for the help

Are the stepper motors locked or free when they should move and don't?

There is a "quirk" in Stepconf that "Test axes" doesn't set the drive "enable" pins.
(Running the full system would, if the enables are configured)

Many stepper drivers have a "not-enable" input, which turns the drive off when high. (It's typically a waste of an IO pin with stepper motors)

If the motors are locked then the drives are enabled, and for some reason the step pulses are not being seen. If they are free then suspect the enable logic.
