No Luck with 5i25 & 7i76

I'm just no having any luck with my Mesa setup on a new mill I'm working on. I've tried to have VIN powered from an external power supply. After realizing, you really can't do it, I'm having it powered by the 5i25. I have both the VIN and Field power LEDs on. The current issue is LinuxCNC rejects my config and I don't see why. This was produced with pncconf. It's taking issue with my GPIO outputs. Disabling #9 just makes it complain about #10, etc.

I should say, I don't know if my stepper setup is remotely correct. There is a huge disconnect between the referencing of the 7i76 in pncconf and the terminals on the 7i76. So, I was just going to try guessing and checking.

Any help would be great. I've attached data. Thanks!

Typically not finding field I/O indicates a problem with power supplies or FPGA card/7I76 cabling

can you list:

1. 5I25 jumper settings
2. 7I76 jumper settings
3. External power supply connections and voltages

Hello.
Right now I have both the VIN and field LEDs on. I'm running VIN off of the 5i25. On the 7i76, W2 is in left hand position. W1 is in right hand position. On the 5i25, W1 and W2 are in the up position. The field voltage is 5V. Checking VIN with a meter, I'm only getting 0.3V between pin 5 and 8 on TB1. So, that doesn't sound right. I would rather have VIN powered externally, however when I configured the jumpers for that (not current config) and applied 5v to pin 5, I got no VIN LED. I also tried 12v to pin 5 with the same result.

I've attached. All stated is with everything disconnected but TB1 and TB2. I'm trying to eliminate anything external to the MESA setup.

Sounds like you dont have VIN powered

For this you need:

12V GND - TB1 pin 8
5V GND TB1 pin 8
+5V TB1 pin 1
+12V TB1 pin 5

W1 RIGHT!

I have applied +12v to TB1-Pin 5. CR1 LED will no light. W1 & W2 both in right hand position on the 7i76. I moved both W1 & W2 to the down position on the 5i25. LinuxCNC errors out and no VIN power LED. I believe my MESA cards are DOA.

I have no LEDs on the 5i25. Shouldn't I have something?

You still have power wired incorrectly

7I76:

12V GND - TB1 pin 8
5V GND TB1 pin 8

+5V TB1 pin 1
(5V VFIELD)

+12V TB1 pin 5
(12V VIN)

VIN is 12V, VFIELD is 5V
Note CR2 in VFIELD LED

W1 RIGHT
separate VIN and VFIELD

W2 LEFT
Get 5V logic power from 5I25
Note CR1 indicates 5V logic power

5I25:

W2 UP
Supply cable power for 7I76 logic

Note: normally there are no LEDs illuminated on the 5I25

You still have power wired incorrectly

7I76:

12V GND - TB1 pin 8
5V GND TB1 pin 8

Done

+5V TB1 pin 1
(5V VFIELD)

Done

+12V TB1 pin 5
(12V VIN)

Done

VIN is 12V, VFIELD is 5V
Note CR2 in VFIELD LED

CR2 is on. CR1 is not.

W1 RIGHT
separate VIN and VFIELD

Done

W2 LEFT
Get 5V logic power from 5I25
Note CR1 indicates 5V logic power

Hold on. Your manual specifically states that I will cause damage if I do that.

5I25

W2 UP
Supply cable power for 7I76 logic

TB1 pin 1 through 4 all have 5V relative to pin 8. Pin 5 has 12v relative to pin 8.

You are not supposed to apply 5V logic power to to 7I76 (VIA TB3) when the 5I25 jumper is up

VIN and VFIELD are completely independent and isolated from logic power so this
warning does not apply to them
