Ok, thanks for the clarification. I thought VIN feed logic power....One and the same. I didn't realize that there are 3 different power sources. Thanks for your help. The mill table is now rolling back and forth.

You are not supposed to apply 5V logic power to to 7I76 (VIA TB3) when the 5I25 jumper is up
VIN and VFIELD are completely independent and isolated from logic power so this
warning does not apply to them

Replied by bottleworks on topic No Luck with 5i25 & 7i76 (again)
Hello again. So after finding how great the MESA 5i25+7i76 works, I overnighted another set for Saturday to be installed in another machine. I've got it all installed, however, I'm getting the same error on this machine. Both CR1 & CR2 was lit. 5i25 is providing the logic power.
I tried the following:
When starting LinuxCNC, I get:
What did I do wrong this time?...
I tried the following:

Hard to tell but assuming field power is sufficient (say 8V or more)
it looks like the hal file is screwy since no stepgens were enabled
(and maybe the sserial is disabled as well)

On this one, I'm using 12v for both VIN and field. Single power feed with the jumper set to power both. I'll post the config files in a few minutes. They are right out of pncconf. I was up all Saturday night to try to finish it and I had to stop at 5 AM.

I tried using the configuration which works on my other mill on this second mill. I wired them virtually the same to keep troubleshooting a little easier. It errors out with that config too.

the line showing fault is
hm2_5i25.0.7i76.0.0.output-13 machine-is-enabled
<stdin>:17: Pin 'hm2_5i25.0.7i76.0.0.output-13' does not exist
also your showing that your setting up for 10 stepgens , ? you'll probably find changing this to the default of 5 , may bring the other fields correct
num_stepgens=10
for a test for now , just comment out the the gpio line and see if it then clears the problem , if not and it gives yet another gpio pin error and these pins just happen to be the smart serial pins , check that your field power comes up to volts
BEFORE the pc or the 5i25 is started , if the field power is delayed or you have a noisy or intermittent supply due to contact breakers etc , until after the 5i25 is powered then the smart serial is unable to be initialised , and 5i25 shows as an error on the GPIO pins as they are essentialy not available
iv'e had this show up and it turned out to be a faulty power supply
you also have this ,
insmod: error inserting '/usr/realtime-2.6.32-122-rtai/modules/linuxcnc/scope_rt.ko': -1 Unknown symbol in module
which version of linuxcnc are you running ? , is this a run in place build

Try this in a terminal:And paste/attach all the output here.
Does the 5i25 say that it has 7i76 firmware installed (on a sticker)
sudo dmesg -c
halrun
loadrt hostmot2
loadrt hm2_pci
show pin
exit
dmesg

From the 5i25. Measuring the 7i76 at TB3 pins 22& 23, I get a reading of 4.98 volts. So, the 5i25 is providing good power.
Version 2.5.3. Installed from the live CD. This machine was operating on a par port config prior.

bradley@CNC-Mill:~$
which version of linuxcnc are you running ? , is this a run in place build
Version 2.5.3. Installed from the live CD. This machine was operating on a par port config prior.
It just complains about the next pin.just comment out the the gpio line and see if it then clears the problem , if not and it gives yet another gpio pin error
Even with the 5i25 supplying the power?iv'e had this show up and it turned out to be a faulty power supply
