sorry for bringing this up, but is this still the best way to go about setting up a 7i92m? I just finished a long long month of wiring a machine and am starting to try an figure out the software for the very first time as a greenie and am looking for a place to start. I have loaded Linuxcnc (Preempt RT version) with your help! lol I am using a 7i92M with a 7i76 and 7i77. any help is appreciated. I have done nothing since getting the software to load besides open linuxcnc look at it for a few minutes the closes it and shut down the computer.. so im from scratch pretty much. no updates or anything.
Thanks in advance!
Chris

From Linuxcnc side the 7i92 is a 5i25 through ethernet, so any Linuxcnc config for 5i25 will work on 7i92.
That is not the case for firmware, so do not flash 5i25 firmware to a 7i92 card.
In pncconf make a config for 5i25, finish it and open the hal file in a text editor, replace "hm2_pci" with "hm2_eth" and replace anything 5i25 with 7i92. Use the replace feature in all text editors.
I do not recal if there is a firmware for 7i92 and G540 but it should be.

I'm assuming you are using linuxcnc 2.7.
Looks like there is no firmware added for a 7i92 /7i76/7i77
I'll look into when I get a chance.
Do you actually need steppers and servos to run the machine?

Chris,
Just servos, using pulse for axis, but using the index pulse of the encoders for accurate homing and also using the 7i77 for spindle control +/-10v analog with encoder feedback ( Spindle servo).

Did you ever get these three cards working together? I bought the same two for my retrofit... Given they had a couple steppers on the Z.
Would love to see a working INI and HAL file.
I did install the firmware that is for this 3 card combination. At least I think it is lol. 7i92_7i77_7i76D.bin
