If you want to try the custom Onboard keyboard layout unzip this folder in your home file:
Then when you start onboard (you can do this by typing 'onboard' in a terminal screen) you will see an icon in the top panel
click it, click preferences, select layouts, and you should see cnc - pick it.
then this will be the layout that pops up each time.

Where are you going to be?
You can develop in my garage if you get withdrawal symptoms

I would test gscreen with 10.04 - I got errors with 12.04 also but since no one can run a machine with 12.04 yet I didn't address the issue.
What was the error?
if the other machine is running 10.04 onboard is available by default.
go to applications / accessories and open a terminal.
then type onboard and press enter.
It should pop up.
If you use the instructions I wrote above you should be able to get the keyboard I modified.
If in preferences you select show floating icon it may be easier to use. Just remember to minimise it not close it.
I am not sure if it's available in 8.04 - you can try it..

hmm how did you get that version? buildbot or did you build from sources?
It's behind be quite a bit..
When did you get it? you need to update it. That version is more then 11 days old. my last commits were about 5 days ago.

I meant to tell you that I had problems using onboard keybosrd with a mouse, though it worked fine with a touch screen. FYI

I used buildbot then tryied from source with the help of Kim Kirwin. How do I update?
This is from the termnial afterloading the keyboard:
2012-12-21 08:01:24,162:WARNING:KeyboardSVG: Loading legacy layout format '1.0'. Please consider upgrading to current format '2.1'
I also just had a thought. Can the keyboard buttons use a long press like smart phones and tablets?

to upgrade buildbot try this:
open a terminal and type:
sudo apt-get upgrade
It will ask for your password.
I had to do this twice for some reason..
You should see some text as it searches - it may ask about unsigned keys it's ok say yes.
hopefully that upgrades it.
I assume the keyboard did load and work though? Was this with the 12.04 ? I modified a 10.04 version keyboard.
I am not very familiar with the onboard project. - so I can't tell you what feature the will / have added.
Its travel day so I'll be off for a while..
Seasons greetings to everyone - I may pop in from time to time.
