Looks like a major surgery on a wheezy install.
However, I finally hit the magic twanger last night, and with one remaining niggle, its working at any screen size I can muster up on a 1920 display.
Near the bottom of the xml file saved by glade-gtk2 from the 3.80 release, there were a couple "placeholders" defined. Using geany, I nuked them, and that got rid of the error exit. The remaining niggle is that at certain screen sizes and aspect ratios, it jiggles like a cold bowl of jello. Adjust the axis window a couple pixels either way and its dead stable. I can live with that. Now all I need to do is fine tune the #99 tool, and learn how to use the rest of the center and/or align stuff.
Thank you very much for the reply Norbert, its much appreciated.

Hallo Mike,
you have missed the notice, that all glade after 3.8.6 will not work with glade-gtk2!
So please install latest 3.8.6 not any later releases.

Hi Norbert
I deinstalled the 3.20, as proposed after my "downgrade glade" post,
Then I followed your description, earlier in this post here, by copy paste.
Saw no errors,
But when I first typed glade-3 i got: ibgladeui-1.so.11 cannot open s......
So any Idea what i should do now?
PS.
And I understood from cmorley's post that it is gtk2 and that it is handled till 3.8.6.
and that Gtk3 is not supported.

in a terminal type glade-gtk2 <enter>
If glade loads then you have a compatible version.
