Typing "halcmd show pin" in a terminal window will dump
all hal pins and their states (and you can of course re-direct this output list to a file)
Looking back I notice that the your index is not synchronized with the actual spindle (This is a very unusual setup so its not surprising that motion may not like what it sees) It may be the fact that motion spindle revs is not commensurate with the index operation causes a problem

hmmm ok what would you suggest to tie the index to the spindle cause the resent post of my hall I've deleted the gearchange. I'm leaving the gearbox in high gear which is 1:1 with the motor so as far as everyone is concerned the encoder might as well be mounted right to the spindle.

ok so im thinking Im using the wrong pins to do my spindle at speed comparison. should I use the motion.spindle-in and motion.spindle-out as a comparison? if so ill need to scale my hm2_5i20.00.encoder.04.velocity pin prior to hooking it up to motion.spindle-in

oh and just for reference I thought this was odd. maybe I'm wrong I thought hm2_5i20.0.encoder.04.velocity was supposed to float out revolutions per second and its not. its putting out a number that is exactly 1000 times to small it says 0.506 to 0.507 with a s500 m3 running

I've tried everything I can think of changed how the spindle at speed was compared. changed to a simple spindle drive with no gear change I think it has to do with the other axis. what and how can I check with the other axis?

I don't suppose you are in incremental mode and the requested movement is less than a full turn?
What is the starting Z position when you issue this command?
12.5 TPI?
