Yes you can, but not strictly, they can be anywhere and still work.
There is a read me with those files, and at the begining of this thread. Read that carefuly and do the changes.
There is also info on seting up the Proma elektronika 150 THC in this thread.

-I have to modify the ESTOP file by removing the # and put 15 instead of 10
Net ExtEStop parport.0.pin-15-in => estop-latch.0.fault-in

If I change the thc.hal file
I but my FloatSwitch on pin 13

Have you also checked the step and dir pins?
Right click on the ini file and choose open with, enter linuxcnc under use custom command.
It should open and run.

Are you loading an estop-latch component?

You would need to scroll about one page lower down the error listing to see the actual problem.
