Stepper motors and linear scale closed loop setup?

That sounds like what i have in mind.

I mostly looked at the Single Line Resistance system. I am not dismissing the method as such but I think the oil points on my machine are not that similar or reliably made that the design rules can be applied everywhere. I might be wrong. Anyway I have made up my mind to make something myself. I like to tinker with such things.

Slowly getting there. First use of the refurbished Y axis.

Replacing the plastic Y motor mount with one made of steel.
Testing how serviceable the Y ballscrew is by installing an oiler hose for the Y ballscrew nut.
Some remarks on the performance after the rebuild in the end.

Sorry and old version was uploaded. This is mended now.

It took its time, but now it is up and running. I have some more things I want to do with it.

Any ideas on how to test performance with and without the linear encoders?
I would like to record several minutes of data but halscope has its limits.

You can use hal-sampler to record as much data as you want...

To check the difference between open and closed loop you could change the feedback path to the PID from encoder or stepgen leaving the encoder
feedback to motion (so the following error was always valid)
