BigJohnT ... I tried to configure without the tool and the result were not good.  Linuxcnc failed to run.  I am back to re reading the manuals and I try again.  I am hoping to most of today on and I will post as I go..

here are my settings with the tool.  the trouble is that there are certain buttons that kill the tool.  also if I reload the tools there a bunch of setting that dont get reloaded.  regardless here are my setting.

This the error i get if i do not make these changes
[AXIS_X]
MIN_LIMIT = -10
MAX_LIMIT = 97
MAX_VELOCITY = 5
MAX_ACCELERATION = 5

#[AXIS_X]
#MIN_LIMIT = -10
#MAX_LIMIT = 97
#MAX_VELOCITY = 5
#MAX_ACCELERATION = 5

[AXIS_Y]
MIN_LIMIT = -2
MAX_LIMIT = 52

If i do make those previous changes then linuxcnc runs but it removes the 2nd X axis.  and there are no animations

OK i have Joint 0 and joint 1 moving together.  I had to add these lines to each joint.

OME_OFFSET = -2
HOME_SEARCH_VEL = -1
HOME_LATCH_VEL = -0.1
HOME_FINAL_VEL = 1
HOME_IGNOR_LIMITS = YES
HOME_SEQUENCE = 1

for some reason they did not get created with the tool.  of course the value changes for each joint.  I am not connected to the motors yet so i cant make it to the limits to home.  and it will not let me jog till I home.. 
Can any one suggest how i can avoid that?

I think it is a typo OME_OFFSET = -2

If this is a gantry you will need to change HOME_SEQUENCE = 1 to HOME_SEQUENCE = -1 on both joints

Have you tried using the 'LinuxCNC Pncconfig' ??This is how i have set mine up.
