I hope that these new firmware allow to use MPG (quadrature) with pins 16 and 17 (7i76U), because the instruction:

setp hm2_7i92.0.7i76.0.0.encmode0 4

Return:

"./mpg.hal:5: param 'hm2_7i92.0.7i76.0.0.encmode0' is not writable"

You need would update your LinuxCNC to say 2.9.8 to support version 3 of the PktUART

I'll take a look at the MPG issue.
 

There is a bug in the MPG encoder mode parameters (marked read only) ,
so we will have a firmware update coming.

Here is fixed firmware fro the 7I76EU/7I76U that fixes the MPG encmode
parameter direction issue. This is the full image that needs a PIC programmer
to install. Will have a bin file for remote updating soon.
