That all looks very nice.
And that is the version you need for the 7i96, that is the Preempt-RT or RT kernel you need, in this case it has also Kona in it's name.

i used the latest one from March 2020
forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...cnc?start=110#158899
So if it's all good for the 7i96 it's good for me
BTW the update manager wants to update the KERNEL, should i let it do it ?

Much easier to disable update manager and use
sudo apt update
sudo apt dist-upgrade
That will leave the kernel as is and update all other things...or stuff...

Nope. You can, but you will have to press shift+ctrl at every boot to chose the right kernel, or install grub customizer and change the grub entry.i used the latest one from March 2020

In the update manager you can right click on the kernel package it wants to install and select ignore all future "updates for this package" you wont be prompted to upgrade any kernels.

OK gurus, that's clear at least
Linux is a steep learning curve when you come from the windows world where most of it is transparent to the userr
Now i have to find a suitable computer for my project

After a few weeks when you use windows you'll get frustrated, especially when some tasks are easier to do and see what's going on (wrong) using the command line in linux.
Oh and the lack of viruses, trojans and software that wants to spy on you.......and updates only really require a reboot when installing a new kernel. And updates don't require 4 or 5 reboots.
And one of the best things, if you do get an issue with Linux you'll get more than "have you installed the latest drivers and updates". And the price is about right as well.

If you are going that route, a standard Linux Mint install would be the better option for general everyday use.

So i got hold on an old Fujitsu Siemens computer, With a Celeron @2GHz and it was horrible
Only to get the jitter test running it took like 7mn to have it launched then when running all was frozen
it had a 90µs and 1000K jitter..................damn, but nothing else was working
Trying it on my "old" laptop now
