It takes about 20 to 40 minutes, and that is being generous !
From a USB drive, i have not used DVD in quite a while.

The ones remastered with linuxcnc take no longer than doing a install of Mint.
From an install point of view there’s no difference.
The script can take a while as it will install the kernel and linuxcnc then optionally install the deps for qtvcp and the deps to rebuild linuxcnc.
The only thing not on the DVD is the deps to rebuild linuxcnc but there is a desktop shortcut that will do that.

I havent had much luck with usb drives. Maybe I will try if I can find one.
What size would a 2 gig usb drive work?

Nope, Linux Mint only, 2.1GB, most of the ready versions are from 2.4 to 2.6 GB.
Or Linux Mint 19.3 with XFCE, 2.0 GB, but if you are used to Mate, stick to it.

Maybe one has gremlins ?
Can’t say what the issue is, I’ve tested it on a couple of laptops from i5 to Core 2 duo, a desktop with an i5 the only thing that was an issue was the dumpster find core 2 duo iMac, but that an Apple thing. But I did eventually get it Mint going on it, which was the reason for banging that script together.
Oh yeah and the little atom based Acer netbook, performance was what you’d expect.
Did you check the md5 on the download, you know, just in case?

I know with the RTAI kernel is a bit slow to get to the login screen, but that is an actual kernel thing, but all you have to do is wiggle the mouse.
Out of interest what is the spec of the machine ? CPU, memory and others.
If you want to post to forum.linuxcnc.org/9-installing-linuxcnc...t-19-2-with-linuxcnc
It may help others and once we get a solution and I'll add it to the first post.
Have you a link to any of the threads. I've never had an issue pop up, the only time I've felt it has been slow is really due to speeds of various usb sticks.
I have a multiboot USB stick that I made myself and it boots all versions fine and that's with using grub to loop mount the iso.
Sounds like a rotten day mate.
