I see the problem, well no worries.

Well you are in luck Talla83 has some great stuff. I really wish I understood German.

Unfortunately I'm a Luddite and speak a broken version of English eg: Australian and forget that there are other smarter people who are multi lingual.

In noticed this when testing - but forgot to mention.
While runing live, if you wait too long doing nothing, a password is required to regain the desktop again.
I never did find out what the password was.

Got this very problem solved like this, when the live stick fell into screen saver. Thereafter, the login screen appears and the above described problem raises:

  1. press Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get to a textconsole
  2. (on the live stick) you will see a prompt like "user:>"
  3. enter sudo su
  4. check with "whoami" that you are "root" now
  5. enter "passwd user"
  6. enter the same "password" (does not have to be fancy, as the live stick is not {yet?} persistent) twice
  7. with Ctrl-Alt-F7 you will get back to the graphical login screen
  8. Enter user "user" and Password "password"
  9. you should be back inyour live stick desktop

The default user/password on the debian LiveCD is
username - user
password - live

In the case of the LinuxCNC Raspberry Pi image it is
username - pi
password - raspberry

Thank you very much for the information.
Since my last post I didn't do anything about LinuxCNC, the reason why I answer only now.

Hi,
As I have meanwhile bought a mill -but I still have to assemble it- I tried to start LinuxCNC and it asks at once for the password. I had totally forgotten that.

Would much be lost if you did a clean install and remembered a new password?

Are we talking about a BIOS password, a HDD password (again in BIOS) or a Linux Desktop password ?

After the discussion here over 4 pages it seems to be a BIOS pwd.
