Good morning Robert! As you mentioned in the earlier post, I got the ethercat master installed from Bjarne von Horn's repos over at etherlabmaster and yes
Code:
ethercat master
shows my Beckhoff devices (EK1100, EL1819, EL2008).

My problem now is that I can't compile Sittner's driver code. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the ethercat master install method though, or if I'm missing something else. Pariticularly it fails to compile cause of a missing header file, namely ecrt.h. Shoud this be installed along with the ethercat master?

I would be more than pleased if you could help me getting a clean install up and running!

Nevertheless I'm gonna start over from scratch and try to follow the process you described in the earlier posts.

Thanks
Günter

Did you follow the steps in the spoiler in the sticky I did? That will be required.

Hello Rod!

Yes, I exactly followed your sticky thread, except the ethercat master part, since I unstalled it from Bjarne's repo.

Was I supposed to install the ethercat-dkms, libethercat, libethercat-dev and ethercat-master via apt anyway?

I'm not sure yet as I have not tried. But I am sure you will need to change the contents of realtime.mk as per the part in the spoiler.

I needed to install the packages and now it's working, thanks again!

So for everyone who needs it here are the steps I took:

1) a fresh install of debian 12.1 as recommended in Rod's sticky
2) install lcnc 2.9 from repos
3) install ethercat master from Bjarne's repo. instructions can be found at  gitlab.com/etherlab.org/ethercat/-/issues/61
4) install kernel headers, build-essential, ethercat-dkms, libethercat, libethercat-dev, ethercat-master via apt
5) edit /etc/ethercat.conf, add
Code:
MASTER0_DEVICE="xx:aa:yy:zz:bb:cc" and DEVICE_MODULES="generic"
6) back to RodW's sticky following the rest of the steps starting from
Code:
sudo systemctl enable ethercat.service sudo systemctl start ethercat.service sudo systemctl status ethercat.service sudo chmod 666 /dev/EtherCAT0

I hope it'll help!

Thanks to all for your support!

Thanks for your reply!

Meanwhile I went over to gitlab and first tried to compile ethercat-master, with no success.
Fortunately Bjarne von Horn jumped in and gave me the link to his home repo and that actually worked.

Many thanks for your work here.  visited your issue and after a bit more help, I got ethercat installed on my Secureboot machine.
The first post in the sticky  thread has been updated with the current process (including the secure boot)
forum.linuxcnc.org/ethercat/45336-etherc...-how-to-step-by-step
Any testing or review would be appreciated. I have not tested on real hardware. I am expecting a second NIC to arrive tomorrow and I will set up some slaves.

The installation is actually easier now with the way the keys are installed etc.
